This week was pretty exciting we were able to finish up an Oregon Energy Trust project. The project involved new controls for a 75 HP vertical turbine pump and a 10 HP vertical turbine pump. We installed a new duplex variable speed drive to control both turbine pumps. By doing so we are now able to run each pump at slower speeds which will save energy, maintain constant system pressure, and reduce water hammer. While the main focus of this project was energy savings the new controls also provide for expanded protections for the existing hollow shaft pump motors. These protections include phase unbalance, overload protection, over voltage, under voltage, high water pressure alarms, and low water pressure alarms.
