Put simply a U.V. Filter uses ultra-violet light to kill waterborne contaminants. U.V. filters are commonly used to treat water contaminated with coliform bacteria and ecoli. The benefits of U.V. filtration is low maintenance, low operating costs, simple operation, and unlike chlorine treatment the ability to effectively treat the water without altering the taste or odor of your water. The most significant benefit to U.V. filtration is the peace of mind knowing that you have a safe and reliable water supply.
A U.V. filter works by exposing water to ultraviolet treatment by using UV lamps placed within the treatment chamber. Although the water resides within the chamber for only a few seconds, it receives sufficient UV dosage to be lethal to microorganisms present in the water. The water quality in the system must be free from turbidity otherwise a 5 micron filter may be needed prior to treatment.
Most U.V. bulbs have a life of about 9,000 hours or one year. With this in mind we recommend replacing the bulb annually and cleaning the sleeve annually. Most of the units we sell will come equipped with an alarm to alert you when the bulb needs to be replaced.
